COMMONWEALTH DAY CELEBRATION

The Commonwealth of Nations, with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as head and comprising the 53 former colonies of Britain, will observe Commonwealth Day on 8 March 2004.  All member countries around the world will observe the day.  This year’s theme is : Building A Commonwealth of Freedom.   At a meeting of Ambassadors and representatives of the Commonwealth countries in Washington, DC, it was decided that as part of the activities to commemorate the celebration, an art and writing competition for children be organized and prizes awarded accordingly.

In a press release by Mr. Ivor agyeman-Duah on behalf of the Planning Committee, the competition will be open to children between the ages of 10-15 and should embody this year’s theme: “Building A Commonwealth of Freedom.”  The title for the competition is: “What does freedom mean to a Commonwealth country?”

The conditions for the competition are:

  1. Only children between the ages of 10-15 are eligible.
  2. Writing and Poetry: Discuss the title using any Commonwealth Country as focus.
  3. The composition should be no more than 250 words.
  4. The instructions for the art competition follow the same guidelines.
  5. Full mailing address and contact information of participants should be included.
  6. Entries submitted will not be returned.
  7. Entries will be accepted now through 22 March 2004.
  8. All submissions can be emailed or sent to the address listed below
