SYMPOSIUM ON EDUCATION AND HEALTH NEED OF CHILDREN IN LESOTHO

The Embassy of Lesotho in collaboration with the Prince George’s County, Maryland Chapter of the Links, Incorporated will host a symposium on education and health needs of children in Lesotho, scheduled for March 28, 2004 between 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Participants from civil society, the business sector, academia, churches, diplomats and media in and around Maryland and Washington Metropolitan area are invited to discuss the education and health needs of children in Lesotho or Southern Africa.

The symposium will take place at the Washington D.C. Temple, Visitors’ Center, 9900 Stone brook Drive, Kensington, MD 20895 and will feature an opening plenary session with Her Excellency Ambassador Molelekeng E. Rapolaki delivering keynote address on the education and health needs of children in Lesotho. Mrs.. Wendy Jolley-Kabi, Programme Manager of Maseru Children’s Village (MCV), a project of Lesotho Save the Children, will share with the participants her own hands-on experience with the Maseru Children’s Village (Maseru Children’s Village is a temporary home for children who have been abandoned by HIV/AAIDS and several of the children themselves are HIV positive.)

USAID AND THE World Bank Representatives have also be invited, and requested to share their own experiences not only on Lesotho but also on the Southern African region.

The opening plenary session will be followed by working session (with clear & action-oriented discussions on how best to assist and/or collaborate with those organizations already on the ground responding to these needs) on key subjects including health needs of children in Lesotho, education needs of children in Lesotho etc.
